The development gracefully provides 16 one and two bedroom, north-facing apartments with dual outdoor living areas.
Situated adjacent the rail corridor amongst the residential and industrial buildings of Wickham, this Affordable Rental Housing development will provide much needed housing for both essential workers and social housing tenants. The design is compact, efficient and optimises the relatively small 412m2 site to achieve 16 dwellings comprising a mix of one and two bedrooms. All apartments have exceptional amenity with north facing living spaces, high proportion of natural cross ventilation and dual outdoor living areas. A roof terrace provides a place for communal gardens and social interaction, affording 360 degree views of the city, harbour and distant mountain ranges.
Originally designed by Frederick Menkens and constructed in 1906, the lower three floors of the existing building is of Federation ‘Free-Style’ and of local heritage significance. The top floor, by F. G. Castleden, was added in 1911 as the first stage of a planned additional two storeys. The structure was formerly known as ‘The Centre’ and part of its heritage significance is its association with the Dangar family.
