Throsby Street Residential

Saw-tooth roof forms and half-storey scaling are reflective of the neighbouring warehouse buildings within the former-industrial suburb of Wickham.

The Throsby Street project addresses an eclectic context of small-scale mining cottages, terraces and industrial warehouses and aims to achieve a scale that is harmonious with both the existing and future desired character of Wickham.

Reveals in form and material provide opportunity for light and amenity to reach deep into the building footprint.

Bounded by a laneway to the north, the site is characterised by a finer building fabric and affected by a mine settlement contour. These factors drove the design approach and construction methodology for this portion of the site. The solution was to scale down the development to two-storey townhouses along the northern laneway and offset the remaining built form, providing amenity through light and ventilation into the center of site and apartments beyond. The two-storey townhouses are constructed of lightweight framework in response to the mine contour and are broken into a variation of forms creating a diversity in height and street setback along the laneway.
