The addition offers contemporary light-filled commercial space whilst being sympathetic to the original design by Lawrence Nield.
The new addition, a shrouded glazed box, provides additional floorspace while also allowing more natural light to the interior. On the exterior, its angular design juxtaposes the original curved elements.
The original building concept of carving and casting created an expression of bold singular forms. Deploying a louvre shroud to the addition creates a lighter, yet singular, formal expression that complements the existing building.
A central connecting feature stairwell serves as both an aesthetic centrepiece and a catalyst for interaction among occupants while the striking new entryway beneath the addition, along with thoughtful landscaping connects the building with the streetscape.
