St Joseph's Learning Hub

CKDS was engaged by the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle to refurbish the existing Library at St Joseph's Primary School at Taree, NSW.

Areas are connected by a common finishes palette which lead the children through either the formal teaching, library and meeting spaces to the informal reading nooks and steps.

The brief for the new Learning Hub was to provide a much more flexible teaching space to cater for the contemporary learning and teaching pedagogies that array from the formal through to the self-directed learning.

The St Joseph’s Learning Hub also included the upgrade of a multi-purpose teaching space to expand the schools ability to provide science and cooking lessons. An under utilised outdoor area was located next to the existing Library. As part of the above works this area was to be converted to an area of quiet reflection and meeting place which also referenced the strong connection of the site to the Biripi people who are traditional owners of the land on which the school is located.
